How to Submit an Appeal for the SASSA R350 SRD Grant

Have you applied for the Covid-19 SRD grant and your application was unsuccessful?

There are various reasons why your application might have been declined.

Regardless of the reason, if you disagree with the outcome, you are eligible to appeal.

You have 30 days to lodge an appeal through the DSD Independent Tribunal Website https://srd.dsd.gov.za if you have received a notification that your application was rejected.

Before you start with the appeal process, please check that the information which you submitted to SASSA is complete and correct. This will be shown on the SRD DSD Appeal Electronic Platform.

If necessary, you can update your contact information here: https://srd.dsd.gov.za/sc19/contact. This is very important to note because if your appeal is successful, payment will have to be made. So, your contact details will have to be correct.

How to Submit SASSA R350 Grant Appeal

You can submit an appeal by following these steps:

  • Visit the srd.dsd.gov.za site and click on the green bar written “click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status”
  • Enter your ID Number and phone number used to submit an application and click on send pin.
  • Enter the pin you would have received on your phone and click on submit.

The Independent Tribunal will review and inform you of the outcome of your appeal electronically, within 60 - 90 days from the lodging of the appeal.

As the Covid-19 SRD is re-evaluated by SASSA and paid monthly, to confirm that a person is still in need of the Covid-19 SRD, an appeal application needs to be lodged in relation to each month where a person is rejected by SASSA.

The decision of the Independent Tribunal will accordingly only be in respect of the specific month to which the appeal relates.

Rejected applicants are advised to lodge an appeal as soon as they receive a rejected notification from SASSA and not delay.

The decision of the Independent Tribunal is final and no further internal recourse will be available. If you are still not satisfied with the decision of the Independent Tribunal, you may approach the High Court for judicial review as provided for in the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act, 2000 within 180 days.
