SASSA Grant Payments for June 2022

The month of June is around the corner and SASSA often makes grant payments during the first week of every month.

If you are a SASSA grant beneficiary, then the following SASSA grant payment dates for June are important for you to remember.

SASSA has different grants that they offer to South Africans depending on their special needs. Just to mention a few they have the disability, older persons’, child support, foster child, and care dependency grant.

SASSA announced that they will now be making payments much earlier every month, which will be from the second day of each month.

Grant payments for June will be available at the Post Office from Thursday, the 2nd of June. Payments will not be issued on weekends/public holidays.

  • 2 June 2022 (Thursday) – Older Persons’ Grant
  • 3 June 2022 (Friday) – Disability Grant
  • 6 June 2022 (Monday) – Children’s Grant

How to apply for a social grant?

The South African Social Security Agency is the official administrator for all social grant applications in South Africa.

Older Person’s Grant

For the Old Age Pension, you will need to meet the following requirements

  • Be 60 years of age or older.
  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
  • Resides in South Africa.
  • Not cared for at a state institution.
  • Not receiving any other social grant for yourself.
  • Not earning more than R86 280 if single or R172 560 if married.
  • Not have assets worth more than R1 227 600 if single or R2 455 200 if married.

To apply you will have to visit your nearest SASSA office with the following required documents:

  • Identity Document, if you do not have an ID you will have to complete an affidavit and a sworn statement signed by a reputable person verifying your name and age. SASSA will then take fingerprints and refer you to the Department of Home Affairs to apply for an ID while your grant application is being processed.
  • Proof of marital status (if applicable).
  • Proof of income/dividends if you have any.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of assets, this includes the value of the property you own.
  • Proof of private pension if you are receiving any.
  • 3 months bank statements.
  • If previously employed, proof of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) membership or a discharge certificate from your ex-employer.
  • If your spouse died within the last five years, a copy of the will and the first and final liquidation and distribution accounts where applicable.

At the office, you will have to fill in an application form which you will submit with the relevant required documents attached to your application. You will be given a receipt which serves as proof that you applied for the grant.

If you are too old or sick to visit the SASSA Offices by yourself, a family member or a friend is eligible to apply on your behalf. They will have to bring in the letter from you or your doctor stating your inability to visit the offices.

If approved, you will receive R1 980 if you are between the ages of 60 and 75 and if you are older than 75 then you will receive R2 000.

Child Support Grant

This grant is relevant for people that need financial support to help raise their child or the child they look after.

To qualify you will need to be:

· The child’s primary caregiver (e.g., parent, grandparent, or a child over 16 heading a family). If you are not the child’s parent, you will need to provide proof in a form of an affidavit from a police official, a social worker’s report, or an affidavit from the biological parent stating that you are the child’s primary caregiver.

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident and reside in South Africa.
  • Not earn more than R52 800 per year if you are single. If you are married, your combined income should not be above R105 600 per year.

The child must not be older than 18, not cared for in a state institution, and must be living with the primary caregiver who is not paid to look after the child.

To apply you will have to visit your nearest SASSA office with the following required documents:

  • Your SA Identity document and the child’s birth certificate.
  • Proof of any maintenance you receive for the child.
  • Your marriage certificate, if applicable.
  • Proof of your earnings.
  • If divorced, proof that you have fu custody of the child.
  • If one or both parents are dead or missing, the death certificate of the deceased or proof that the parent is missing, e.g., a missing person's report from the police.

If your application is approved, you receive R480 per month for each child.

Disability Grant

This grant is for people with physical or mental disabilities, making them unfit to work for six months or longer.

To qualify for the disability grant, you will have to meet the following requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 59.
  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident or refugee, residing in South Africa.
  • Not cared for in a state institution.
  • You will have to undergo a medical examination wherein a doctor appointed by the state examines the state of your disability.
  • Not earn more than R86 280 if single or R172 560 if married.
  • Not have assets worth more than R1 227 600 if single or R2 455 200 if married.
  • Have previous medical reports and records.

To apply you will have to visit your nearest SASSA office with the following required documents:

  • A South African ID.
  • A medical report and assessment report verifying your disability.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of assets, this includes the value of the property you own.
  • Proof of private pension if you are receiving any.
  • If previously employed, proof of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) membership or a discharge certificate from your ex-employer.
  • 3 months bank statement.
  • A copy of the will and the first and final liquidation and distribution accounts if your spouse died within the last five years.

If your application is approved, you will be eligible to receive a payment of R1 980 every month.
