The Premier Soccer League widely known as the PSL is the national sports association which is responsible for the administration of the African Premier Division and the National First Division, this are the two professional football divisions in South Africa.

1. Mamelodi Sundowns

With and estimated net worth of $11 million, Mamelodi Sundowns also known as the Brazilians is the richest football club in South Africa.

The club joined the Federation Professional Football League in 1973 and from then it has been one of the most successful football clubs in South Africa. They are regarded as the giants in Africa.

Amongst many other achievements, the club has won the PSL title eleven times and in 2016 it was voted CAF club of the year and they also won the CAF champions League. They are the only South African team that was fortunate enough to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.

2. Kaizer Chiefs 

Kaizer Chiefs also known as Amakhosi was established in 1970 by Kaizer Motaung after his return from the USA wherein he had been playing football for the Atlanta Chiefs.

The club’s name is a combination of the owner’s first name “Kaizer” and his previous team’s name Atlanta “Chiefs”.

With the highest fanbase of over 16 000 000, Kaizer Chiefs is one of the top South African football clubs.

In the PSL, Kaizer Chiefs is well known for its rivalry with Orlando Pirates wherein they mostly sell out stadiums on match days.
